Porn or Not Porn?

Dauvy and I were having an interesting conversation.  It was brought on by the pictures I linked to in another post with the naked female bits being posed with a dead octopus on them.  I was saying that I thought most of them couldn’t even be called porn, that instead I think they’re more of an extreme erotic art.  They’re definitely NOT arousing, and yet they are very interesting to look at.  Thought provoking…Yes, mostly thoughts resembling “WTF?!” but still makes you wonder and think.  The last few photos cross the line out of erotic art and into some other zone I cannot even define, yet I would still not call it “porn”.

That leads me to wonder.  They say that “Art is in the eye of the beholder.”  Erotic art has a difficult time.  Some would call all of it pornographic.  Some individuals would consider the raunchiest pornn to still be Art.  I mean, is anything rendered on canvas with paints and brushes considered art?  I’m not sure.  I think anything can be rendered in an artistic maner. Dramatic lighting, good composition, symbolism, etc. Does it being tasteful make it art?  Tasteful to whom?

Where do YOU draw the line between art, erotic-art, and pornography?  Don’t get me wrong here, I’m not talking about video at all. Lets keep it strictly to photography, drawing, painting and sculpture.  I’d like to hear some opinions.
